Walter Viele

With over 30 years’ experience, Walter began his career in highway construction as a general laborer at Gator Asphalt Company, working summers while attending the University of Florida, where he earned his BS in Civil Engineering.
After graduating in 1998, he worked as a geotechnical engineer for Universal Engineering in Gainesville while completing graduate coursework in foundation design and structural material design and testing.
In 2000 he moved to Raleigh, NC and joined C.C. Mangum Company as a project engineer, advancing to project manager and then to Division Manager of the Commercial Division, Vice President of Business Development, Vice President of Estimating, and Vice President of the Public Division. The company later became FSC II, LLC dba Fred Smith Company following ownership changes. Over his 26 years there he served as the qualifier for the firm’s GC and utility license in North Carolina and built extensive roadway and sitework construction experience.
In March 2026 Walter returned to Florida as Senior Vice President of Gator Grading & Paving, where he oversees project delivery, preconstruction, and business development.
